Chemical Properties | white crystalline powder |
Originator | Antineuralgiae,Jelfa |
Definition | ChEBI: Carbromal is a N-acylurea. |
Manufacturing Process | 120 parts urea and 258 parts 2-bromo-2-ethylbutyrylbromide was mixed and
stood at room temperature for 12 hours; then the mixture was heated about
3 hours on water bath and adjusted to alkaline pH with sodium bicarbonate
after cooling. The unreacted products was dissolved in brine, the insoluble
part was filtered off. The recrystallization from ethanol gave the title product -
(2-bromo-2-ethyl-butyryl)urea as the colorless, odorless crystals. MP 114°-
118°C. |
Brand name | Adalin
(Sterling Winthrop). |

General Description | Odorless tasteless white crystalline powder. Saturated solution in water neutral to litmus. |
Air & Water Reactions | May be sensitive to prolonged exposure to air and light. Insoluble in water. |
Reactivity Profile | The neat material may be sensitive to prolonged exposure to air and light. (2-BROMO-2-ETHYLBUTYRYL)UREA is incompatible with acids and alkalis. |
Fire Hazard | Flash point data for (2-BROMO-2-ETHYLBUTYRYL)UREA are not available; however, (2-BROMO-2-ETHYLBUTYRYL)UREA is probably combustible. |
