Diphenyldichloromethane Usage And Synthesis
Chemical PropertiesDiphenyldichloromethane is a clear light yellow liquid that is used as a precursor to other organic compounds. It is used in the synthesis of tetraphenylethylene, diphenylmethane imine hydrochloride and benzoic anhydride.
Usesα,α-Dichlorodiphenylmethane is a degradation product of of polychloroaromatic insecticides such as Dicofol (D436700) and DDT. It is also used as a catalyst for photodegradation of plastics. It is an important raw material and intermediate used in Organic Synthesis, Pharmaceuticals, Agrochemicals.
PreparationDichlorodiphenylmethane is synthesized by the condensation of benzene with carbon tetrachloride (Friedel-Crafts reaction). Add aluminum trichloride and 2/3 amount of anhydrous carbon tetrachloride into the reaction tank, cool to 10-15°C, add 1/12 amount of benzene for reaction, continue to cool to 5-10°C, add the remaining mixture of carbon tetrachloride and benzene dropwise, add after, react at 10°C for 3h.
