1-PHENYLDECANE Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertiescolourless liquid
Uses1-Phenyldecane is used as an enhancer to reduce interference in ion-selective membrane electrodes for determining carbon dioxide.
DefinitionChEBI: Decyl-Benzene is a member of benzenes.
General DescriptionWhite liquid. Floats on water.
Air & Water ReactionsInsoluble in water.
Reactivity ProfileVigorous reactions, sometimes amounting to explosions, can result from the contact between aromatic hydrocarbons, such as 1-PHENYLDECANE, and strong oxidizing agents. They can react exothermically with bases and with diazo compounds. Substitution at the benzene nucleus occurs by halogenation (acid catalyst), nitration, sulfonation, and the Friedel-Crafts reaction. May attack some forms of plastics [USCG, 1999].
Health HazardInhalation of vapor causes slight irritation of nose and throat. Aspiration of liquid into lungs causes coughing, distress, and pulmonary edema. Ingestion causes irritation of stomach. Contact with vapor or liquid causes irritation of eyes and mild irritation of skin.
Chemical ReactivityReactivity with Water No reaction; Reactivity with Common Materials: May attack some forms of plastics; Stability During Transport: Stable; Neutralizing Agents for Acids and Caustics: Not pertinent; Polymerization: Not pertinent; Inhibitor of Polymerization: Not pertinent.
