5-Sulfosalicylic acid dihydrate Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertieswhite crystalline powder
Uses5-Sulfosalicylic Acid Dihydrate is for reducing and fixation of proteins in agarose and polyacrylamide gels.
Uses5-Sulfosalicylic acid dihydrate may be used in the preparation of 1:1 proton-transfer organic adduct, 3-aminopyridin-ium 3-carb-oxy-4-hydroxy-benzene-sulfonate monohydrate and the anhydrous adduct.
General Description5-Sulfosalicylic acid is a strong acid capable of protonating water. It forms a new theophylline complex, which was investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). It forms 1:1 proton-transfer compounds with the ortho-substituted monocyclic heteroaromatic Lewis bases. Their crystal structures have been studied.
Purification MethodsCrystallise the acid from H2O. Alternatively, it is converted to the monosodium salt which is crystallised from H2O and washed with a little H2O, EtOH and then Et2O. The acid is recovered by acidifying. The S-4-chlorobenzylisothiuronium salt has m 181o (from dioxane). [Beilstein 11 H 411, 11 II 232, 11 III 704.]
