| COBALT(II) BROMIDE HYDRATE Usage And Synthesis |
Chemical Properties | Red violet crystal. | Uses | Hygrometers, catalystsCobalt(II) bromide hydrate is mainly used as a catalyst in organic synthesis, like C-metal, C-heteroatom and C-C bond formations, addition to unsaturated bonds, cyclizations, polymerization, oxidations reductions and carbonylations. It reacts with ammonia to form coordination compound bromopentaamminecobalt(III) bromide. It reacts with triphenylphosphine and form complexes of cobalt(II) bromide, which used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. | Purification Methods | Crystallise it from water (1mL/g) by partial evaporation in a desiccator. The anhydrous salt is soluble in EtOH, Me2CO, MeOAc to form blue-coloured solutions. [Glemser in Handbook of Preparative Inorganic Chemistry (Ed. Brauer) Academic Press Vol II p 1517 1965.] |
