Manufacturing Process | Poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (50% w/w, 426 kg) was charged to a 1000 L reactor and water (200 L) was added. Sodium hydroxide solution (32% w/w,
208 kg) was added, followed by 85 L of water. The mixture was stirred for 1 h
and filtered to a 2500 L reactor. The transfer line was rinsed with water (217
kg) and acetonitrile (1300 L) added. The temperature was adjusted to 40°C
and epichlorohydrin (20 kg) added. The mixture was stirred at 40° to 50°C for
1.5 h and then heated to reflux for 16 h. The resulting product slurry may be
isolated and washed in decanter centrifuge.
