4-DODECYLPHENOL MIXTURE OF ISOMERS Usage And Synthesis
Uses4-Dodecylphenol is suitable for use in the preparation of polyaniline/4-dodecylphenol complex, an important organic corrosion inhibitor. It is suitable for use in the preparation of polymeric nanorods.
General DescriptionStraw-colored liquid with a phenolic odor.
Reactivity Profile4-DODECYLPHENOL MIXTURE OF ISOMERS reacts as a weak organic acids. Reacts weakly exothermically with bases. Can react with strong reducing substances such as hydrides, nitrides, alkali metals, and sulfides is generate flammable gas (H2); the heat of the reaction may ignite the gas. Incompatible with sulfuric acid. May be nitrated by even dilute nitric acid to give products that can explode when heated or form metal salts that tend toward detonation by rather mild shock. Gives irritating vapors and toxic gases, such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide when burned [USCG, 1999].
Health HazardExposure can cause irritation of eyes, nose and throat. Toxic by ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact.
Fire HazardSpecial Hazards of Combustion Products: Irritating vapors and toxic gases, such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, may be formed when involved in fire.
Safety Profileskin contact. Combustible when exposed to heat or flame; can react with oxidizing materials. To fight fire, use CO2, dry chemical. When heated to decomposition it emits acrid smoke and irritating fumes.
