| SILVER THIOCYANATE Usage And Synthesis |
Chemical Properties | white powder(s) [STR93] | Uses | Silver Thiocyanate is an important reagent in the synthesis of silver nanoplates and nanoparticles. | Purification Methods | Digest the solid salt with dilute aqueous NH4NCS, filter, wash it thoroughly with H2O and dry it at 110o in the dark. It is soluble in dilute aqueous NH3. Alternatively dissolve it in strong aqueous NH4NCS solution, filter and dilute with large volumes of H2O when the Ag salt separates. The solid is washed with H2O by decantation until free from NCSions, collected, washed with H2O, EtOH and dried in an air oven at 120o. It has also been purified by dissolving in dilute aqueousNH3 when single crystals are formed by free evaporation of the solution in air. Store it in the dark.
