Iron oxides graded safe for cosmetic use are produced synthetically in order to avoid the inclusion of impurities normally found in naturally occurring iron oxides.Black iron oxide or magnetite is also used for corrosion resistance purposes. Black iron oxide is also used in anti-corrosion paints (used in many bridges, and Eiffel tower).
