| FOSTHIETAN Usage And Synthesis |
Chemical Properties | Fosthietan is a pale yellow oil. It has a
mercaptan-like odor. | Uses | Nematocide; insecticide. | Definition | ChEBI: Fosthietan is a phosphoric ester. | Synthesis Reference(s) | Journal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, 7, p. 381, 1970 DOI: 10.1002/jhet.5570070221 | General Description | Pale yellow liquid with a mercaptan-like odor. Used as a nematocide and insecticide. Not registered as a pesticide in the U.S. | Reactivity Profile | Organophosphates, such as FOSTHIETAN, are susceptible to formation of highly toxic and flammable phosphine gas in the presence of strong reducing agents such as hydrides. Partial oxidation by oxidizing agents may result in the release of toxic phosphorus oxides. | Health Hazard | FOSTHIETAN is a liquid organophosphorus insecticide. Organic phosphorus insecticides are absorbed by the skin, as well as by the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. | Fire Hazard | When heated to decomposition, FOSTHIETAN emits very toxic fumes of nitrogen oxides, phosphorus oxides and sulfur oxides. FOSTHIETAN is a liquid organophosphorus insecticide. Container may explode in heat of fire. | Potential Exposure | Fosthietan is used as a nematocide
and insecticide. Not currently registered as a pesticide in
the U.S. | Shipping | UN3018 Organophosphorus pesticides, liquid,
toxic, Hazard Class: 6.1; Labels: 6.1-Poisonous materials. | Incompatibilities | Incompatible with oxidizers (chlorates,
nitrates, peroxides, permanganates, perchlorates, chlorine,
bromine, fluorine, etc.); contact may cause fires or explo sions. Keep away from alkaline materials, strong bases,
strong acids, oxoacids, epoxides. Strong oxidizers may cause
release of toxic phosphorus oxides. Organophosphates, in the
presence of strong reducing agents such as hydrides, may
form highly toxic and flammable phosphine gas. | Waste Disposal | In accordance with 40CFR
165 recommendations for the disposal of pesticides and
pesticide containers. Must be disposed properly by follow ing package label directions or by contacting your local or
federal environmental control agency, or by contacting
your regional EPA office. |
