Chemical Properties | CLEAR LIGHT YELLOW TO SLIGHTLY BROWN LIQUID | Definition | ChEBI: A dihydronaphthalene hydrogenated at C-1 and C-2. | Synthesis Reference(s) | Tetrahedron Letters, 28, p. 2481, 1987 DOI: 10.1016/S0040-4039(00)95446-7 | Synthesis | Dissolve 1,2-naphthoquinone (0.18 mmol) in ethanol (3 mL). NaBH4 (73 mg, 1.93 mmol) suspended in ethanol (3 mL) was added dropwise to the reaction mixture. The mixture was stirred at room temperature under nitrogen. After 1.5 hours, the mixture was poured into ice water (50 mL). Acidify the mixture with HCl (0.5 M). The mixture was extracted with CH2Cl2. The mixture was dried over magnesium sulfate. The mixture was concentrated to give 1,2-dihydroxynaphthalene. |
