METHYLDICHLOROPHOSPHINE Usage And Synthesis
Chemical PropertiesColorless to light yellow liqui
UsesMethyldichlorophosphine is used to prepare difunctional phosphonoamidite coupling reagents in nucleoside chemistry and "phospha-Wittig"reagents.
General DescriptionA colorless liquid with a pungent odor. Very toxic by inhalation. Denser than water.
Air & Water ReactionsHighly flammable. Forms fumes containing HCl in moist air. Can spontaneously ignite on contact with moist air. Reacts with water to form hydrochloric acid, reaction may be violent and ignite unreacted material.
Reactivity ProfileMETHYLDICHLOROPHOSPHINE is water reactive. Incompatible with strong oxidizing agents, alcohols, bases (including amines). May react vigorously or explosively if mixed with diisopropyl ether or other ethers in the presence of trace amounts of metal salts [J. Haz. Mat., 1981, 4, 291].
Health HazardFire will produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Inhalation of decomposition products may cause severe injury or death. Contact with substance may cause severe burns to skin and eyes. Runoff from fire control may cause pollution.
Fire HazardFlammable/combustible material. May ignite on contact with moist air or moisture. May burn rapidly with flare-burning effect. Some react vigorously or explosively on contact with water. Some may decompose explosively when heated or involved in a fire. May re-ignite after fire is extinguished. Runoff may create fire or explosion hazard. Containers may explode when heated.
Safety ProfileA poison. A corrosive irritant to the skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. Flammable when exposed to heat or flame; can react vigorously with oxidtzing materials. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of Cland POx.
