Nickel(II) thiocyanate is obtained by dissolving nickel(II) carbonate in thiocyanic
acid or by metathesis from nickel(II) sulphate and barium thiocyanate. It gives a green
solution in water from which it separates below 15° as the tetrahydrate; above 25°, yellow Ni(SCN)2?0.5H2O separates, and the brown amorphous anhydrous salt is obtained when this is dehydrated at 150°.
