N-Isopropylaniline Usage And Synthesis
Chemical PropertiesClear light yellow liquid
UsesDyeing of acrylic fibers and as a chemical intermediate
UsesN-Isopropylaniline is a microbial metabolite of Propachlor (P757300), an acylanilide herbicide that is used to maintain crop protection from weeds. Propachlor is also known to induce Glutathione (G597951)-dependent cytotoxicity and sister chromatid exchanges in human cells.

General DescriptionN-isopropylaniline is a clear brown liquid. (NTP, 1992)
Air & Water ReactionsInsoluble in water.
Reactivity ProfileN-Isopropylaniline neutralizes acids in exothermic reactions to form salts plus water. May be incompatible with isocyanates, halogenated organics, peroxides, phenols (acidic), epoxides, anhydrides, and acid halides. Flammable gaseous hydrogen may be generated in combination with strong reducing agents, such as hydrides.
HazardToxic by inhalation and skin absorption.
Health HazardN-isopropylaniline absorption causes methemoglobinemia in animals, and the same effect is expected in humans.
Fire HazardN-Isopropylaniline is combustible.
