ERBIUM CHLORIDE Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertiespink crystalline powder
UsesStarting material for new edge-bridged octahedral M6 cluster compounds such as CsErTa6Cl18, for which electron and stability studies were performed.1
UsesErbium Chloride is an important colourant in glasses and porcelain enamel glazes. High purity Erbium Chloride is widely applied as dopant in making optical fibre and amplifier. It is particularly useful as an amplifier for fiber optic data transfer.
UsesIt is a starting material for new edge-bridged octahedral M6 cluster compounds which are used for electron and stability studies.
PreparationErbium(III) chloride is a powerful catalyst for the acylation of alcohols and phenols.
Neodymium chloride and Erbium(III) chloride were prepared by dissolving the corresponding oxides of high purity in hydrochloric acid and removing the excess of the latter by evaporation.
Safety ProfilePoison by intraperitoneal and subcutaneous routes. Moderately toxic by ingestion. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of Cl-. See also RARE EARTHS.
