3,4-Dichlorophenol Usage And Synthesis
Chemical Propertieslight yellow to brown crystals
Uses3,4-Dichlorophenol (3,4-DCP) is used in the synthesis of (Z)-5-arylmethylidene rhodanines as anti-methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) agent. It can also be used in the preparation of 2-(3,4-dichlorophenoxy)-N-(2-morpholin-4-ylethyl)acetamide for the treatment of inflammatory pain.
DefinitionChEBI: 3,4-Dichlorophenol is a dichlorophenol.
General DescriptionNeedles (from benzene, petroleum ether) or light brown and yellow crystals. Odor threshold 100 μg/L. Taste threshold 0.3 μg/L in water.
Air & Water ReactionsInsoluble in water.
Reactivity Profile3,4-Dichlorophenol is incompatible with acid chlorides, acid anhydrides and oxidizing agents.
Fire HazardFlash point data for 3,4-Dichlorophenol are not available. 3,4-Dichlorophenol is probably combustible.
Purification MethodsCrystallise 3,4-dichlorophenol from pet ether/*benzene mixture and/or distil it. [Beilstein 6 IV 952.]
