Hexylmagnesium chloride is a polymeric organometallic compound that is used as a catalyst in organic synthesis. It is used to polymerize diphenyl ethers, which are used as viscosity modifiers and polymers for paints and varnishes. Hexylmagnesium chloride has also been shown to produce polycarboxylic acid chlorides from esters, amides, or nitriles. It has a particle size of about 0.5 micrometers and can be either solid or liquid at room temperature.
