Stimulates pancreatic and gastric secretions to aid in the diagnosis of pancreatic exocrine dysfunction and the diagnosis of gastrinoma.
Uses
Secretin human has been used:
in the radioimmunoassay with oxyntomodulin
to test its effect on the enlargement and swelling of human endoderm stem cells (hEnSCs) derived cyst
to stimulate human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC)-derived biliary cells in cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) assays to test its effect on cAMP production
Brand name
SecretinKabi (KabiVitrum, Sweden).
General Description
Secretin is a gastrointestinal hormone and a neuropeptide. It is synthesized from a precursor protein and shares sequence homology with other secretin family proteins like glucagon and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP).
Biochem/physiol Actions
Secretin regulates the secretion of gastric acid and pancreatic bicarbonates. It serves as an antidiuretic hormone in the neurohypophysial-renal axis and participates in osmoregulation. Secretin mediates its function through the G-protein coupled secretin receptors. It regulates the pH of the duodenal by modulating gastric acid secretion.
