| Cefminox Usage And Synthesis |
Definition | ChEBI: Cefminox is a second-generation cephamycin antibiotic having [(1-methyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl)sulfanyl]methyl and 2-{[(2S)-2-amino-2-carboxyethyl]sulfanyl}acetamido side-groups located respectively at positions 3 and 7beta of the cephem nucleus. A broad-spectrum bactericide, it is especially effective against Gram-negative and anaerobic bacteria. It is a cephamycin and a member of tetrazoles. It is a conjugate acid of a cefminox(1-). | Antimicrobial activity | A semisynthetic cephamycin. Activity is similar to that of
cefoxitin and cefotetan, but the activity against enterobacteria
and B. fragilis is somewhat better . C. difficile
is inhibited by 4–16 mg/L. It is stable to the common
β-lactamases of enterobacteria and Bacteroides spp.
A 15-min intravenous infusion of 1 g achieves a serum concentration
of 30 mg/L after 1 h. The plasma half-life is c. 2 h
and around 68% is protein bound.
Its safety profile and uses are similar to those of other
cephamycins. It is available in Japan. |
